- In order to compress a video file, you will need to install a compatible software. HandBrake is a useful open-source(free) video software that will work. https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
- Once you download the proper version for your system, install it to your computer. It should also create a shortcut on your desktop that you can easily launch the program with.
- Once you have HandBrake open, click “Source” in the top left corner to select the video that you want to compress.
- After selecting the video file, input a destination and give the file a name. Make sure that the “Output Settings” are “MP4” and under the “Video Tab” the “Video Codec” is set to “H.264 (x264)”
- On the right hand side of the application make sure that you select Presets > Devices > Universal.
- Once all the settings are confirmed to be correct, press “Start” at the top of the window.
- Once this is completed the compressed file will be in the folder you told it to save to. Open the video and test that it works.
